CSX will be replacing the railroad crossing east of Boone Street at 6th Avenue starting on Monday morning. The railroad has already started prep work but major construction won’t start until Monday. Because of this construction, this crossing will be out of service during the hours that crews are working on it – 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
During these hours, residents can use the emergency alley that runs parallel to Sixth Street to get in and out of this neighborhood. Public works has made improvements to this alley to make it more drivable during this construction period.
CSX has told us that gravel will be placed in the crosswalk area from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. so vehicles can transverse the train tracks during these nonconstruction hours. Construction is supposed to be completed by Jan. 21.
Police, Fire and Public works have drawn up plans to access to this neighborhood and have done an excellent job preparing for this issue.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
